Scotland 2016 – Day 5

Day 5 and I headed yet further North, with a few stops along the way.  The forecast said dry in the morning, but heavy rain by 1pm.  I was extremely lucky though and managed to get through the day with no rain!  I was therefore able to make a few stops along the way.

The first stop was at Glen Coe.  I can now confirm that in fact it doesn’t always rain at Glen Coe, as it was not whilst I was there.  I stopped off at the Visitor Centre and followed one of the marked routes.

After some lunch I jumped back into the car and continued to Fort William, where I jumped off of the main road to go to Glenfillan where I hoped to spot the viaduct made famous by the Harry Potter films.  Not only did I find the viaduct, but I completely accidentally timed my stop perfectly to watch 2 steam trains cross the viaduct.  A perfect moment for any massive Harry Potter fan (like me).  An almost un-perfect moment, whilst heading back to Fort William from Glenfillan, I panicked when I heard a loud rattling and thought my rattly exhaust had fallen off!  But no, I looked to the side to see I had caught up with the steam train and we were driving along together along the edge of Loch Eil.

After that I continued North up the windy roads until I made it to the next B&B.  It’s in a beautiful village overlooking Loch Duich.  Fingers crossed for another dry day tomorrow so I can explore the Isle of Skye!
